From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were treated as family rather than renters of a camping site! Being "newbies" at camping with a motor home we did not have a tow vehicle so each of the other guests along with Bridget and Mike offered to pick up groceries or other items from town if we needed so that we did not have to move our RV until we were ready to start the return trip home.
The one thing that you may want to think about is the location of the stop sign at the end of the road as you exit Pete's site. Either the sign is going to be hit or your evergreen tree at the opposite side is going to be damaged as RVs the size of ours or even smaller making the right turn. If you move the sign to the driver side of the road the turn would be less sharp and easier to maneuver.
We look forward to camping in your backyard soon!

Hello Again!
We thoroughly enjoyed our first stay at 4 Paws! The facilities are wonderful, Paige loved the small dog off leash park and Serina discovered she loves to swim - as long as there are ducks to chase! We hope to return when the weather is warmer - and a little drier! Meik, Birgit, Schroeder and Linus are wonderful hosts (hope you enjoyed your birthday cake Schroeder!) we felt very welcome and feel as if we have a new friendship! We are really looking forward to our next trip!

Meik and Birgit: Our stay at Four Paws was just delightful! For the first time, in a long time, Bill and I actually relaxed and were able to step back and enjoy ourselves. You folks are the most gracious hosts, your campground is clean, well organized and beautiful!

As you know, first hand, Gizmo was in doggy seventh heaven play mode all week and it was wonderful for us to see him be able to run full speed and play till his heart's content with Abby, Linus, Timber and sometimes a little ramble or two with Schroeder.

Bill and I have, and will continue, to highly recommend Four Paws Kingdom to all our friends and family with fur-kids. We're all looking forward to our visit in July.

Thank you for a fun week!

Hey guys,
Just a note to say we had a great time staying with you! Jack and Annie have never had such a wonderful time camping. Your hospitality and campground are #1 bar none. See you (again) this weekend.

Max and Susan Glass, Jack and Annie   May 2005

Hi Mike and Bridget,
Well its been back to the rat race here. Really had a good time at four paws and we'll be staying with you guys in the future.
Just a few very minor suggestions which may not really help you at all.
1. Size of gravel on driveway. Pretty large and loose gravel makes riding a motorcycle kinda of tough, but since you really don't cater to the bike crowd this may not be an issue.
2. Fish pond, lots of algae makes fishing the pond just about impossible - could use some airation maybe, but then again this isn't a fishing resort.
3. Trail- had a hard time following it but maybe when more people use it, it will be easier to follow.
Well that's about it, pretty minor stuff. Don't know if any of it will help you out, we will certainly do our part to spread the word.
Look forward to coming back!!

Some friends and my husband and myself just came by to check things out on Saturday evening ( just passing thru) and wanted to tell you what a nice place you have. We don't have a dog but we love them. We have a cat - that doesn't camp. It was the cutest place we have ever seen. We can't wait to come up for a week-end. You have a really great and very informative web site also. I brought back information and made copies and gave several friends here at work. They are so excited also. They have dogs. So you will probably see a lot of us folks from Shelby. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for letting us go thru and check everything out.
You were having pot luck supper while we were there and you took the time to show us around.

Our 3-day stay at 4 Paws Kingdom was truly one of the highlights of our vacation. It was a wonderful place to relax knowing that our 3 Border Collies were welcome, safe and having a wonderful time. The campground is a delightful place; we felt like old friends from the moment we arrived. We do have two regrets: 1. We were unable to stay for the chili cookoff/doggie olympics and 2. We live too far away to come back every weekend!

Sherry & Rex Swanson, Maggie, Katie Grace and Picabo  June 2005

We loved our stay with you and as you know, have reserved a stay during Labor Day. Thank you for your generosity. See you soon !

Jerry and Melissa Cole and Tommy   July 2005

Dear Meik and Birgit,
Pete and I wanted to thank both of you very much for making our vacation at your campground extra special. Morgan and Jenny had a fabulous time at the pond chasing your ducks and at the doggie park. The cabin was great and very comfortable. We really appreciate you giving me a ride to the agility trial, it made things much more relaxed for us. My friends loved the dog bone soap you made Birgit. Hopefully, we'll be able to make the drive up that way again. I am attaching a couple of photos of the girls.

Jenny had a wonderful weekend in Louisiana, she earned 3 double Q's and 41 MACH points!
Take care and best wishes,
Pete, Connie

Hi, Schroeder!

Please tell your Mom & Dad that we had a great time at 4 Paws. We hope to return soon with more of our friends to enjoy your little piece of paradise!
Journey is exhausted. She got to swim one more time today, and was baffled when I went in the water, too! But, she is much more comfortable swimming now. Thanks!
Take care.

Dear Schroeder,
We had a fantastic time staying at your campground. Lea, Rex and Elliott had a blast. They really enjoyed learning the agility course. We hope to return sometime this summer. Thanks for sharing your beautiful facilities with us.
Sincerely, Scotty, Connie, Lindsey and Clint  May 2005

Mike and Bridgett,
Thank you again for a wonderful experience. Bonnie, Lady and her humans Michelle and myself had a fantastic time. We are so looking forward to our next trip down. As you can see we made it home safely after which Bonnie said it was only because of her being the Navigator. Say hi to Rick and Donna for us and tell them I will be emailing them shortly.
The very best to the both of you,
Richard Zacofsky   May 2005

My boyfriend and I always talked about taking our "children" (dogs, Harley and Tex) camping, but who knew someone had already created such a "trip." The campgrounds were awesome and well kept...we DEFINITELY will be returning soon! The owners were very polite and served our every need. Thanks again for the "perfect" trip!!!

Hello back:
We got back ok just a little tired from driving. Lisa, Rudder, and I all had a wonderful time and loved every minute of it. We will definitely will be back for next Octoberfest. Keep us posted into what is all going on at this email address. If you have any problems just let me know. Thanks again for everything.

Yours truly,
David, Lisa, and Rudder (Gummersheimer) May 2005

Meik and Birgit, thank you for a wonderful weekend. Gracie and I loved your park and all the activities you had planned for us. Gracie couldn't decide if she liked the doggie bandana or the karaoke best of all. You have a beautiful and clean park.

Jenny and Gracie Spears  June 2005

Te'a and I certainly enjoyed being at 4 Paws. We will come back when in the area. Being able to run off the leash was the BEST for us. (..) as we know lots of people who would love to come and spend some time with their furry friends.
Again we had a GREAT time - just wish we could have been able to do the "obedience" thing.
My parents say we need it!! Next time!!

Hi Meik & Brigit,
I just wanted to let you both know that Keagan, Kevin, Chelsea and I had a wonderful time. Keagan learned to swim at the swimming pond, which is something we will never forget. Brigit thank you so much for all your help and sharing your knowledge. I will continue to work with Keagan remembering all that you taught me to teach him. Meik the Asian food was fantastic!
We will be back to visit!

Hi Schroeder!
I just wanted to let you know I was "paws over head" with joy while staying and playing at your "digs" a couple of months ago. It was also fun to see King Linus boss my sister Layla around. I have to live with her bossiness every day.  We are hoping to see you again in October and maybe sometime before that. Thanks again for all the fun!
Teddy (Layla, Patricia and Gary) Jones May 2005

We (Kathy & David, Cindy & Kathlene) so enjoyed our visit to your park. We definitely will return and are telling all our dog friends about it. I am attaching a few of the pictures we took. Shamus; Cindy, Shamus, Mack and Diggers on the trail; and Shamus at home with his Great Dane sister (Monday) after his adventure. Feel free to use any on your bulletin board especially any of "famous Shamus".

David and Kathy Duffy  July 2005

Hello everyone! Just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful long weekend at 4paws. Even though we did not have a furred one along (Ted E Bear crossed the rainbow bridge in 2003) we still had a great time. Hubby had fun fishing and even I caught a fish (my first ever). Had a blast at the chili cookoff, and am already thinking of a newer sweeter chili recipe for next year. Birgit, I really appreciated the decorative painting touches you have made in the park. Being a decorative painter myself, when I saw the cute signs you painted I was thrilled and knew we'd have a good time. The Doggy Olympics were hilarious----and I sooo wanted a poochy to participate. The only sad time was when it was time to go home and you can be sure that we will return. I have told all my friends at work who have dogs and who camp about this one of a kind campground and will be leaving a most favorable if unusual (since we dont have a dog right now) comment on the rv review site. Thank you again Lynne Webb P.S. We have worried about you and everyone at 4paws over the recent bad weather---If you have sustained any damage from these storms let me know we'd be glad to come help set things right.

Lynne and George Webb  July 2005

Dear Schroeder, Linus, Birgit and Meik,
We just want you all to know how much we enjoyed our week-long stay at Four Paws Kingdom. Although the weather wasn't what we had hoped for on vacation, it didn't stop us from doing the things we had planned to do and having a fun time together. Your campground was even better than expected and we definitely want to return again. We'd also like to spend more time exploring the mountains around Asheville. Since we aren't yet retired, our vacations are few and far between. The Motorhome helps us get away for an occasional long weekend. Wish you were closer to Michigan!
Pepper and Dakota are working on their obedience and agility. We put up a couple small jumps for them already. They have been happily playing in their own yard again. Your campground was the only one we stayed at where they could run & play and get the exercise they're used to getting. I think they miss the ducks! We'll tell all the dog lovers we know about Four Paws Kingdom and what a wonderful facility you have there in Rutherfordton. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. You are great hosts! Hope your Father's Day festivities went well. Best wishes for a successful season and, with any luck, we'll see you next spring.

Sincerely,
Mike, Sandi, Dakota & Pepper Bockelman  June 2005

We had a wonderful time staying at your campground last week. Our two dogs, Cody and Sammie, had SO much fun swimming in the pond, and visiting with the other dogs in the dog park. They were so tired each night they slept all the way through - which was nice for mom and dad! Our only complaint is that is was pretty buggy (gnats especially) anywhere on grass. You might think about having the campground sprayed.

We hope to make another visit sometime in the future. Thanks again!

Scott & Chris Northrup  July 2005

Hi Meik & Birgit,
Just a follow-up on our visit with you Sat. night. We really enjoyed our visit...It is nice to be able to roam around a campground with your dog without fear of offending someone who doesn't share your love of animals.
Your campground is very well laid out, we especially liked the space between sites.
Of course our hosts were very friendly and the Sat evening gathering of guests at the pavilion was a highlight...

Hope to see you again. Steve & Karen & Maggie  July 2005

Dear Schroeder and Linus, Thank you so much for the wonderful weekend I had at your campground. I especially loved the pond. Being a Golden, I love to swim and what a great way to cool off in this 90 degree weather! My family had a good time too, and I love the scarf my mom made for me. We gave it to my cousin, Tigger, because he was so brave to play with everyone and even let some big people near him. We are all coming back in September and can't wait!

Buddy Snyder   July 2005

We had a SUPER time. We'll be back.

Ed, Carol, Gopher, Balou & Bagera  August 2005

Just wanted to say how much fun Jill and I had camping with you this weekend. Schmidty and Nellie had a great time. Attached are 2 pictures- 1 is Schmidty showing her younger sister how to jump through the ring, the other is Nellie once we got home. She hasn't moved off the couch yet! They had a great time in the dog park, hiking, swimming in the pond, and trying the agility course.
Hope to be back in the fall.

Thanks,
Bonnie & Jill   August 2005

Hi Schroeder and Linus,
I am back in my comfy house in Miami. I love it here but I had the best time at 4paws. I hope my humans bring me back again soon. Please tell your human that we were sorry we didn't get to go to the art show to say goodbye in person, but when we pulled out of the campground something happened with the spare tire compartment and we had to pull off and do some repair work. After that it was late and we just headed for home. I really wanted to check the show out too!! Anyway, everyone had such a great time and I heard my humans telling everyone we met on the way home about your terrific campground.
Thanks so much, we miss all of you already.
lots of licks,
Padi   August 2005

Thank you for a great time, we loved your place. We will be coming back
again and again. The people I talked to without R.V.s were dismayed that
deluxe cabin already booked for rest of the year, and they asked if you
would be adding more cabins in future, I said I hadn't asked that
question.
Thank you again for a wonderful time. You are now our favorite vacation
place.

Liz and Roland Vernon, and the "guys", Toby and Billy  August 2005

Dear Schroeder, Linus, Birgit and Meik,

We had a wonderful time at Four Paws. Our one night stay was much too short.
The ice cream "social" was grand; we missed the Agility Trial and Service--slept too late!
I passed out the pamphlets to our Neuse River Vet Hospital and spoke with one of the owners about Four Paws. I also gave a pamphlet to the lady who has the grooming business; Ruth grooms Ginger and Gypsy at her business in Wendell. Basically, I am telling everyone that I meet about Four Paws and suggesting that they link to your website for Schroeder and Linus' "guided tour."

Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

Jo Anne Beckerich   August 2005

Dear Meik, Birgit, Schroeder, and Linus,
I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay with you was. The cabin was spotless, as were the human bathhouse, and doggie bathhouse. Of course, Odin's favorite spot was the lake. He just wished there was some shade down there. Loki's favorite place was the big dog park. We humans loved EVERYTHING!!! And we look forward to returning next year. Also, we hope to see you this winter in Florida. Just a reminder...I think most people would use squeegees on the shower walls...less work for you!!!
Again, thank you so much for our wonderful stay with you. You really made us feel like we were vacationing with friends!!!
Fondly, Marsha and Robin

Subject: letter in praise of a campground

Dear Good Sam,

We believe we have discovered the ultimate campground for R.V.er's
traveling with dogs. It is called Four Paws Kingdom Campground, in
Rutherfordton, N.C., about 45 minutes South of Asheville, N.C. It is a
campground geared totally for campers with dogs. As the owners said,
this is not a place you will find boomboxes and few, if any, children.
Many of us traveling with dogs are desperate to find a place our dogs can
safely run and exercise, with fenced-in areas.

Four Paws has 5 fenced-in areas, including a large dog socializing park,
an small dog park, an agility course, a swimming area, and an area
fenced-in for dog obedience courses. We have two dogs, both large and
small. Our Golden Retriever did NOT want to get out of the fenced-in
spring-fed pond, he was in ecstasy. I went swimming with him. Both our
large and small dog enjoyed the intro to the agility course we received.

Four Paws Kingdom Campground has thought of everything, including 22
acres of hiking trails, posts throughout the campground with bags and
trash cans for waste, and 2 rental cabins for those without R.V.s. The
cabins even have rails around the porches with gates, so your dog can be
outside with you while you are barbecuing.

There are also indoor and outdoor dog grooming stations, with different
heights and size tubs for various size dogs. Every weekend there are
planned activities, we attended an ice-cream social where we met other
R.V.ers, all of whom had dogs traveling with them, and a dog obedience
course. Everyone there was thrilled to have found the place and all
planned to return again and again.

Four Paws has full hook-ups, WiFi, pull-through sites and spaces ranging
from 25x50 to 50x100, and a campstore with gift items. We and our dogs
loved the place. To our knowledge, this is the only place like it in the
nation. While we have been searching for campgrounds with fenced-in dog
exercise areas, this is above and beyond anything we ever dreamed of.

We also found all the facilities to be immaculate. Four Paws also
provides a reasonably priced dog walking service, so you can go touring
Asheville and the local towns. Asheville is known for the Biltmore
Estate and its arts and crafts community and shops. The owners
friendliness and obvious love of dogs was great.

We can't say enough praise about this campground. They have a lot of
information and pictures on their website, info@4pawskingdom.com or
http://www.4pawskingdom.com

We have found our favorite place to vacation.

Dear Schroeder: We had such a wonderful time at Four Paws Kingdom. Peggy said to tell you and Linius and your parents hi. We will definitely come back to visit you again. The idea of catering to dogs is super and we were very impressed. We hope that next time we come, there will be less rain so Peggy can swim and have lots of fun with you and Linius. We will tell all of our friends who have dogs about your Park. Birgit...thanks for making me the beautiful collie sun catchers. I gave Peggy's breeder the big one and she was really impressed and grateful. Let us know what shows you will be going to and maybe we can meet up at one. Say hi to Meik too.
Suzi & Marty Resnick  September 2005

My two Pomeranians had a world of a time at your campground. They were in just doggie heaven and expected the same type of treatment when we got home. (Sorry guys). They honestly spent the majority of their time at the swimming pond playing, chasing ducks, and of cause swimming. It was fun for the adults as well, not only watching their (fur children) having fun, but swimming with the dogs in the pond, or just the many fun events for the adults to have a chance to talk with other adults.

Thank you for giving my fur children the time of their life.
